To whom it may concern

Conflicting thoughts and confused narratives paralyze us all. Prime Minister's resolve to uproot the last terrorist does not seem enough to address real time threats that loom large everyday, nor does the reiteration from the chief that he would retire on the stipulated date lessens any of the fears of uncertainty engulfing Pakistan.

So who should take charge then? Should it be Imran Khan whose only interest remains to challenge every constituency and its turn out in a possible election contest or will it be the self exiled, self proclaimed savior Altaf Hussain who himself doesn't know that many of his long loyalists are in a perpetual agony to leave the party or remain in it.

The Bilawals, the Bugtis, the Marris and the Shareefs and many more to count are not in a position to steer the nation on a path of progress, liberalism, direction and ideological emancipation. All these stalwarts are a progeny of mere bloodlines and elevated social setup. These tarnished faces neither kindle any kind of hope in the ailing Pakistani polity nor they are capable of doing so since they themselves are an extension of the same mindset that perpetuates status quo and promotes apathy in the society.

The failure of the so called leadership is creating visible fissures in our social fabric and this is happening really fast. The most alarming element in this whole phenomenon is that these gaps are so wide that a new kind of erratic radical and to most extent misguided segment of people is evolving to fill up the vacuum.

Who is responsible for this? Is it the obsolete redundant education system, or is it the growing unemployment in the youth which again has reached alarming levels? Or is it the growing belligerence and shady religiosity promoted from the pulpits of mosques, and spread through new means of communication which are the various social media forums or is it just our negligence and ignorance that allows everything to flourish in Pakistan unchecked.

These are various questions which irk a thinking mind and the answers or solutions apparently are not easy to find. Sayyidah Fizzah Shakil presently hosts a current affairs show in the morning and has been in the field of journalism for the past 22 years.
