Introducing Malir Stars : Episode 2

By FT correspondent

Javed Iqbal was like Sanjay Dutt’s infamous character, Moosa Bhai. Easily ticked off, frequently found quarrelling, he was nothing if not your typical hindi film hero. He paints a scary picture admittedly, although for his friends it was all understandable because they knew his backstory. Jawed had a troubled childhood.

He lost his father when he was only 7. True to our eastern values, he was pushed early into embracing responsibilities of his family. His mother however did not make him struggle. She was a teacher at a government school who worked hard to make ends meet. But Javed still felt neglected as he couldn’t forget the love and attention he relished during his father’s life. That sense of being wronged kept his hackles raised and his balance off.

In this time of despair, Javed leaned on Akbar for support since he lost many whom he claimed his friends when he no more had enough money to spend on them. They both had been introduced by Qadir Bhai during one of the many functions hosted in his center for children and on one such ordinary day when Javed was feeling the blues and related his woes to Akbar, he voiced his amusement over how dramatic their lives were. Following that eureka moment, both the guys started recruiting their fellows to form their theatre group.

We have heard many say how a life with direction changes people, be it our grannies or your run of the mill mullah. And how beautifully Javed’s was transformed we cannot forget. Administering the group along with handling its many shenanigans, Javed truly turned responsible. And beautifying his life with colors was finding love, again. Javed has a good reputation as an actor today. He supports his family and has contributed in stabilizing their situation. And now he is all set to take off to Saudi Arabia.

He does not want to leave for work. He doesn’t even wishes to leave the group he has worked on and with. But he is no more that mercurial Javed who shies away from reality. He has made peace with his duties and bids everyone good-bye with a promise that he will return and be joined seamlessly.
